Fantastic Fives Red team campaign ends with defeat at Melton
The Red team were well beaten in their quarter final by a very strong Melton team. Both the singles and fours matches ended with heavy defeats at the hands of very skilful opponents who demonstrated a masterclass in accurate draw bowling that Daventry just could not match on the night.
With shot difference not counting on the night Daventry were however not out of the match if they could win the pairs and triples and force a shoot out.
Tony Dicks and Margaret Jones started strongly in the pairs racing into a seven shot lead over four ends. However by the last end Melton held a one shot lead. A ditched jack by the Melton skip gave Tony the chance to win the the pairs with his last wood and his class once again showed through as he did so. Sadly the Triples could not match this performance as Cath Hibberd, Adge Smith, and Mick Worthington went five shots down at the halfway stage and were unable to recover.
